Module Title : Chinese Dialectology
Module Description : This module studies the origin, distributions and characteristics of major Chinese dialects. The relationship between modern Mandarin and these dialects will also be discussed. The module also provides students with basic training in dialectal research through field work. Historical comparisons with Middle Chinese will also be discussed. This course is offered to students in the Department.

Pre-requisite : Cohort 2011 and before: Completed 80 MCs, including 28 MCs in CH or CL, with a minimum CAP of 3.50 or be on the Honours track. Cohort 2012 onwards: Completed 80 MCs, including 28 MCs in CH or CL, with a minimum CAP of 3.20 or be on the Honours track.
